Queenstown Police are asking for the public's help to identify this man who may be a valuable witness

Police have arrested two people and are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault in Queenstown around 1.10am near the Crew Room Bar entrance on Ballarat Street on last Tuesday, 25 August.

They say the victim was allegedly assaulted, including being kicked, pulled onto the ground and hit in the face. Constable Amanda Shute says Police are now appealing for any witnesses on the street to the alleged assault to come forward with any information, including any video footage they have made or seen circulating on social media.

Detective Sergeant Simon Matheson says the victim was allegedly repeatedly assaulted and left with serious injuries that require ongoing medical attention.

Police conducted enquiries and have arrested and charged two men in relation to the alleged assault, Matheson says.

A 29-year-old has been charged with assault with intent to injure, and a 31-year-old is facing charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. They are both due to reappear in Queenstown District Court on 19 October.

Police are now urging any witnesses of the assault to please come forward. “In particular, we would like to speak with the man pictured. We understand he may have witnessed this incident and could have information that is vital to our investigation. If this is you, or you know who this is, please contact Police.”

CCTV shows the man in his 20s, wearing a red T-shirt with white sleeves, grey track pants, beige work-style boots and a beige, colourful jacket standing near Vapo on his phone and it looks like he may be filming the incident. “Police are particularly interested in speaking to this person or anyone who knows him or has seen any video recording,” Matheson says.

Information can be provided through 105, either online or over the phone, or come down to the Queenstown Police Station.

Please reference file number 260828/5846.

Alternatively, you can provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
