Geeks on Wheels, a nationwide mobile tech support company, is expanding to The Queenstown-Lakes District, with plans to offer free community tech help sessions focused on scam awareness and online safety.

Geeks has officially launched services across Queenstown, Wānaka, Glenorchy, Cromwell and the surrounding areas, bringing its mobile computer repair and technology support service to the region for the first time.

The company says one of it’s biggest priorities in the area will be helping locals feel more confident and safe using technology, particularly as online scams continue to target everyday Kiwis.

As part of the launch, Geeks on Wheels is inviting local community groups and retirement villages to register for free online safety workshops and presentations. The focus of these sessions will be online safety, scam awareness and scam identification.

“We’ve been running these sessions all over New Zealand for the last few years and the response is always fantastic,” said Manfred James – Geeks on Wheels Marketing Supervisor. “We cover topics like identifying scams and new tactics they’re using, as well as good habits users can adopt to improve their online safety. This is information anyone using the internet needs to know, and we’re excited to help.”

Founded in Wellington in 2005, Geeks on Wheels provides mobile tech support throughout New Zealand, with technicians travelling directly to homes and businesses rather than traditional stores and workshops. Servicing the newest region is Alejandro, a Queenstown local originally from Argentina with over 25 years of hands-on computing experience.

“Alejandro has exactly the kind of calm, people-focussed approach that our customers love” James says. “He thoroughly enjoys helping people who feel a bit nervous around technology and it’s constant changes, that’s what makes him the perfect fit.”

Geeks on Wheels says the regions mix of retirees, families, remote workers and small businesses made Queenstown a natural fit for expansion. Any groups interested in a free tech help session can reach out to marketing@geeksonwheels.co.nz
