Youngsters' marketing and media drive

With 36 holes, 312 golfers, and thousands watching, there was a lot to cover at the New Zealand Open.
So, this year, the marketing team behind the event offered local high school students the chance to capture content for social media.
Armed with cameras, golf carts and youthful enthusiasm, Year 12 and 13 Wakatipu High School students Mia Williamson, Jack Smillie and Jack Trounce spent four days whizzing around the event taking creative photos and video.
"It was an incredible experience. It gave me a deeper understanding of how technology, photography, and illustration skills can be used to capture audiences," Year 13 student Mia Williamson says.
"I was also able to connect with people who are passionate about golf, design, photography and media.
"The opportunity has given me insights into working in the media and communication industry. It’s really reinforced my interest in working in visual communications once I have finished school."
Marketing manager Mike Hadnett was delighted with the students work and enthusiasm.
"Mia, Jack and Jack were great to have onboard. They were proactive, showed initiative and had fantastic talent. It was great to give them some real-life experience working in the media industry and great to see the talent coming through."
