The Wānaka branch of the Chamber of Commerce network has this week unveiled a new brand identity and name.

Formerly Ignite Wānaka, the economic advocacy organisation is now known as the Wānaka Business Chamber.

The Wānaka Business Chamber board and executive team worked closely with Britt Davies from local branding agency Studio Waru and Kai Tahu kaumatua Darren Rewi from Tāke Tuia to develop the new brand.

Significantly, the new brand identity acknowledges Wānaka’s cultural heritage as a sacred place of learning and where Māori rangatira (leaders) gathered, or were born.

Inspired by the three kete (baskets) of knowledge, the brand mark also represents the Chamber’s role as a leader in the local business community – by bringing (weaving) people together – as well as reflecting community, collaboration, support and diversity.

The renaming to Wānaka Business Chamber is in response to a desire for closer alignment with the broader national and international Chamber network and for stronger recognition and awareness within the region.

“The name change provides a clearer and more recognisable identity, symbolising the Wānaka Business Chamber's commitment to adapt and grow alongside the ever-changing business environment,” Wānaka Business Chamber general manager Glenn Peat says.

The rebranding process and strategic review has been a priority of the Wānaka Business Chamber over the past year, in its continued effort to remain relevant and deliver value to its members, board chair Jo Learmonth says.

“We have reflected on the Wānaka Business Chamber’s own evolution amidst considerable changes in the local business landscape in recent years,” she explains. “While our core pillars of people, support, growth and connection remain the same, today's Wānaka Business Chamber stands as a dynamic and supportive hub, dedicated to strengthening our local businesses community through local and national advocacy, quality training opportunities and worthwhile networking events.”
