Simple Minds

Simple Minds and Texas will headline the Gibbston Valley Winery Summer Concert in early February next year.

One of the UK's most successful bands, Simple Minds have sold 60 million records worldwide and had an incredible 15 hits in the NZ Top 50 singles charts throughout the 80s.

They included the now-classic Don’t You (Forget About Me), along with Waterfront, which was No1 for 13 weeks, Promised You A Miracle and Alive & Kicking.

Over the past 10 years, the band has rekindled the magic of their early days, and now play to hundreds of thousands of people every year, all over the world. They last visited NZ in 2017.

Scottish rock band Texas formed back in 1986 and continues to be fronted by founding member Sharleen Spitiri.

They recently performed the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury 2023 to rave reviews and will bring that energy with them to New Zealand with Top 40 NZ singles from the 80s and 90s, including I Don’t Want A Lover and Say What You Want, plus Black Eyed Boy and Summer Son.

All those songs feature in their album The Very Best Of 1989 – 2023, which was released in June 2023 to coincide with their appearance at Glastonbury.

Eighties electro outfit Pseudo Echo, who hit the NZ No1 in 1987 with Funky Town, and US five-piece rock band Collective Soul are also on the bill for the Summer Concert Tour 2024, which hits Gibbston on February 3 after Taupo and Hamilton dates in late January. More than 15,000 people usual attend the annual big day out in Gibbston.

Greenstone Entertainment CEO Amanda Calvert says: "We’re thrilled to have secured the amazing line up of four international artists for next year’s Summer Concert Tour.

"Our fans will love the awesome array of 80s and 90s hits that will bring a real summer festival feel to our already well-known show locations of Taupō and Queenstown, as well as the exciting new venue of Claudelands Oval in Hamilton that we have introduced as an interim measure before returning to the Coromandel in the future.

"With over a decade of bringing some of the best of international live music to our shores, we’re also delighted that our North Island dates will fall on Auckland Anniversary long weekend again, with Queenstown the following weekend for those who want to make a long Waitangi weekend of it.”

Tickets are from $159 plus booking fee. The Greenstone Club Member pre-sale begins this Wednesday, 19 July, from 7am, along with a limited number of local tickets at Gibbston Valley Winery, and Queenstown & Wanaka iSITES

General tickets go on sale Friday, 21 July, from 7am at www.greenstoneentertainment.co.nz.
