The view from Treble Cone, where there's some snow, but not enough to open the skifield

Treble Cone has delayed its opening day due to a lack of snow. The Wānaka skifield, operated by RealNZ, was due to open this Saturday, 23 June.

But General Manager of Cardrona / Treble Cone, Laura Hedley, says that's been postponed until the temperature drops and snow falls.

"Treble Cone, being lower elevation at base, does need a bit more snow for opening so we’re eagerly refreshing that forecast," Hedley says. "The team is as ready as our riders, so we’re playing an involuntary waiting game.

"But while Treble Cone sits patiently, the learners’ slope and McDougall’s Express Chondola are running smoothly at Cardrona. In our first week, we have so far welcomed nearly 6,000 guests and have experienced stunning days above the inversion.

"Guests originally planning to ride Treble Cone this weekend are welcome to join us at Cardrona (please reach out to Guest Services to convert your pass)."

Meanwhile, Queenstown skifield The Remarks opened its main chairlift, Curvey Basin, on Wednesday, and celebrated its annual first-on-the-chair after an epic effort by the NZSki snowmaking and grooming team up the mountain.

At Coronet Peak, Coronet Express chairlift opened this morning, giving access to the M1, while Meadows Express remains open.
