Queenstown Police want to trace a sports bike rider seen speeding along Frankton Road in the early hours of the morning at double the speed limit.

The biker and a passenger were seen travelling towards Queenstown CBD on Frankton Road, near Yewlett Crescent, at 4.20am yesterday, Tuesday 14 April.

The speed limit there, near Frankton McDonald's, is 50kmph, but rises to 70kmph soon after.

Sergeant Sam Oram says: "The bike was signalled to stop, however it failed to do so. Due to the speed, Police did not pursue."

The last sighting of the bike was at about 4.25am as it travelled past the Z petrol station on Frankton Road, heading towards the Queenstown CBD.

"This driving behaviour puts not only the bike riders at risk, but also other motorists. Police will continue to take a zero-tolerance approach to this kind of behaviour and in all cases where possible.

"Police will make follow-up enquiries to ensure these dangerous road users are held accountable."

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw this bike travelling through Queenstown in the early hours of yesterday morning.

"We would also like to hear from anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the bike."

Please contact Police on 105, either over the phone or online, referencing file number 250414/1674.
