Snow forecast for Crown Range

Pack the snow chains in the car, snow is forecast for the Crown Range and possibly lower tonight.
The MetService has issued a Road Snowfall Warning for the pass between Queenstown and Wanaka, from 1am-10am, Wednesday, 10 May.
"Snow is expected to develop above about 800 metres overnight Tuesday," it reads.
"Overnight Tuesday and into Wednesday, 2-4 cm of snow may accumulate on the road above around 900 metres."
Queenstown Lakes District Council is reminding drivers to carry chains and know how to fit them.
"Remember, if you regularly travel over the Crown Range chains should be carried all winter."
QLDC sends out free Community Text Alerts altering people when there's a road closure, dangerous driving conditions, or other emergencies affecting your community.
You can sign up at www.qldc.govt.nz/text-alerts.
Weather and Traffic updates are also available on the Queenstown App and we'll send out alerts to keep you informed on conditions.
Meanwhile, the Crown Range is not the only location in line for a snow dump. There's also a Heavy Snow Watch in place from 4pm Wednesday to 2am Thursday for the northern hills of Southland ,north to the Waitaki River, excluding the lower-lying parts of North Otago, Dunedin and Clutha.
Snow is likely above 400 or 500 metres there, with heavy falls above 700 metres, where accumulations may approach warning criteria of greater than 10 cm in 6 hours.
And, back to QLDC, voting is underway to name the district's grit, plough, and CMA trucks.
The shortlist of 11 is below. Cast your vote on the QLDC Facebook page.
On Monday, 14 May, the names with the most likes will be the chosen ones.
"We’d like to take a moment to thank everyone for all the amazing suggestions," QLDC's comms team says.
"Whichever names come out on top, it’s been tough narrowing this down to just a few. We’d also like to also share a few honourable mentions that we can’t accept votes for but were oh so close to making the shortlist:
• Slow and steady wins the race takes after QLDC
• Is someone on a payroll to do this sort of stuff QLDC? Serious question
• Aurora Power Failure
• So one grit truck for Upper Clutha and one grit truck for Queenstown - doesn't sound enough to cover the 500km of sealed roads in our district. What could possibly go wrong?"
