Snow coats ski fields - powder day photos
Mother Nature has delivered a fresh blanket of snow to Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona Alpine Resort and Treble Cone overnight.
The mountains have welcomed between 15-50cm of snow – with more incoming.
NZSki CEO Paul Anderson is thrilled to see natural snow on the ground.
“Dry July is over! Our snowmakers and groomers have done an excellent job working with what we’ve had up until this point, but it’s exciting to see a substantial amount of natural snow on our mountains," Anderson says.
"We’re in for some great skiing and riding in the coming days."
The Remarkables received 50cm from top to bottom, closing the mountain for the day. Coronet Peak received 20cm at the base building with 40cm higher up the mountain and is open.
Cardrona Alpine Resort received 35cm and is open, whereas Treble Cone has had 50cm in the past 24 hours and is also open.
Cardrona and Treble Cone GM Laura Hedley, says: "This snowstorm is going to set us up for a fantastic August at both Cardrona and Treble Cone.
"It means we’ll be opening more terrain, building more features, and will provide excellent conditions both on and off trail. Thanks for your snow dances – they’ve worked!”
Mt Hutt has received 15cm, with the potential to have a whopping 80cm on the ground once the storm has passed. The mountain is closed.
Snow chains are required and some mountains, including the Crown Range, with some ski roads closed to 2wd - check the various websites for details.
