by Lynne Wright, Arts Facilitator, Te Atamira

We invite active seniors to Te Atamira arts and culture centre for an immersive art programme and morning tea on Saturday mornings this autumn. Te Atamira Senior Arts Social will be a rotation of concerts, art workshops, dance/movement class and artist talks. To secure your spot for each session please call 027 1800 2868 or email hello@teatamira.nz

Senior Arts Social by Te Atamira is an art programme for our active senior community. Over eight weeks from April to June, arts and culture space Te Atamira will host an arts-based session each Saturday morning from 10.30am – 12.30pm. The sessions, generously supported by Te Hau Toka Southern Lakes Wellbeing Group, will rotate through concerts, films, movement classes, creative workshops and is free for people over 65.

The programme was inspired by discussions with St John, Age Concern and Lake Whakatipu Care. Te Atamira Arts Facilitator Lynne Wright says, ‘As we explored what was on in the area we discovered an opportunity to provide a stimulating and engaging Saturday morning programme. We also discovered that some seniors have support and assistance during the week but found the weekends isolating and lonely.’ This is a chance for people to get out into the community and come and join us for a friendly creative activity and a cup of tea.

Lynne explains, ‘With 22 spaces for arts and culture at Te Atamira there is a variety of people – demographics, cultures and arts initiatives happening at any one moment. Both creativity and socialising deliver clear benefits in terms of mood and sense of purpose, and The Senior Arts Social will create a free opportunity for our over 65s community in particular, to be connected more broadly in a warm, inspiring environment.’
