Queenstown Airport have confirmed the passenger walked through these automatic gates

People waiting for flights at Queenstown Airport this morning, had to be rescreened after a passenger inadvertently entered the domestic departures lounge without passing through security screening.

The passenger walked through the clearly marked exit gates into the lounge.

The area is constantly monitored, so the breach was picked up within a minute, but in accordance with security protocols, all domestic passengers had to be screened again.

Aviation Security opened all four screening lanes and deferred the screening of international passengers to enable this to happen but several flights have been delayed by over an hour as a result.

The breach occurred late morning, which is the airport's busiest time of the day.

Queenstown Airport staff worked with airlines and Aviation Security to get flights underway as quickly as possible.
