Queenstown Trails x Cargo Collective Launch “Eco Mode” – A Queenstown Trail-Inspired Ale
Local brewery The Cargo Collective is set to put a refreshing spin on Queenstown’s summer with the launch of Cargo Eco Mode 3.5 % AVB – a bespoke trail ale crafted in support of the Queenstown Trails.
“The trail network is the backbone of Queenstown’s outdoor lifestyle,” says Malcolm Blakey, MD of The Cargo Collective. “Those early-morning rides, the weekend missions, and the chance to explore this regions landscape from an entirely different angle—it all starts with great trails.”
Cargo’s collaboration with the Queenstown Trails Trust celebrates exactly that. “The Trust does outstanding work creating and caring for the trails we adventure on year-round,” Malcolm continues. “It’s a privilege for us to support a team that brings so much energy, opportunity, and enjoyment to this place we call home.”
After reaching out to the team at Queenstown Trails, the concept of a meaningful collaboration started to brew resulting in a very palatable beer.
ECO Mode - brewed for the ride. This 3.5% ABV beer is a light, invigorating ale with a crisp hint of Radler character.
Lemonade Lemons add a bright, sweet-citrus lift, while a smooth grain bill of Pilsner, Gladiator, Wheat, and Oats keeps it easy-drinking.
Whether you’re rolling in Eco Mode or going full analogue, this beer will keep you refreshed.
To mark the launch, Cargo Collective and Queenstown Trails invite all riders, runners, walkers and trail lovers to a beer launch on 6 December at the Cargo Brew Hall in Arthurs Point. 5.30pm- 7.30pm.
Guests will be amongst the first to sample the new ‘Eco Mode’ while enjoying the premier screening of a short documentary film showcasing the construction of the Wharehuanui and Shotover Gorge Trails.
Queenstown Trails Partnerships Manager Emily O’Leary says, “We are thrilled to have Cargo on board as partner—it’s been such a fun initiative. We have loved working with Andrew Boulton, Cargo’s Head Brewer on the flavour profile, he even had us all roll up our sleeves and peel the lemonade lemons that give Eco Mode its crisp, zesty finish”
“Malcolm and the Cargo Collective team are huge supporters of all modes of biking in the region, so collaborating with like-minded people makes sense and Arthurs Point is becoming a fantastic trail hub and an inspiring place to connect with the trail community.” O’Leary adds.
As part of this partnership a percentage of each keg of Eco Mode sold into local operators will go directly to supporting the ongoing work of the Queenstown Trails Trust.
“It’s exciting to see collaborations like this bringing people together and contributing to the future of our trails and a very satisfying way to toast a great day out on the trails” says Queenstown Trails CEO Mark “Willy” Williams.
Queenstown Trails is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to developing and maintaining a globally recognised trail network that enriches the Whakatipu Basin. The network spans more than 200km, connecting communities and delivering tourism, social, economic, and environmental benefits.
