Food Truck Festival: The unmissable gastronomic fiesta in Queenstown

“Daddy, buy me a food track”, expressed with pride the Cordoba Martina Racca when she told her family in Argentina who would start a challenging venture with a food truck, a business that they had developed for years with preparations typical of their culture.

The family was completely surprised, they never thought that the girl who decided to emigrate would be the one who would end up following the legacy.

Martina arrived in New Zealand in 2019 with the Working Holiday Visa, the same year in which she met her boyfriend and now partner in this adventure, Navtej Singh, from India.

After receiving his residence last year, he had no idea of starting a business but wasn't sure what market to target. The doubts were cleared up because Martina had participated in a gastronomic festival with her family, during her vacation in her home country. I went there when she thought about continuing this tradition, but here in New Zealand.

Her boyfriend, Navtej, was immediately excited about the idea and took charge of buying the truck. And she, on her part, carried out all the steps to start the business legally, thanks to Fer y Enrique's help, thanks to the sweet coffee trailer Latin Cakes, who guided her during the process.

This is how the “El Cordobés” food truck, specializing in authentic Argentine sandwiches, started operating at Remarkables Market last February.

Despite being active participants in this market, they realize that they need more spaces to watch and on longer days. “In Queenstown this gastronomic offer was lacking and if we were in this situation, there would have to be others in the same situation”, says Martina.

That's how, driven by this idea, it occurred to them to create the Food Truck Festival, whose first event held last August 27th turned out to be a total and unexpected success. More than a thousand people attended this meeting in which food trucks participated, with various gastronomic proposals.

“You wanted something that people could go and spend their evenings in, in a welcoming and entertaining environment. The idea was to choose a place that was also a contribution to the community and we chose Country Lane, belonging to a Kiwi family” who supported the initiative from the beginning, assures Martina with enthusiasm.

For this reason, the good news is that now the Food Truck Festival will continue to run once every month for every month and plan to carry it out every month during the summer, day and night.

The next festival will take place on Sunday 24th September from 12.00 to 17.00 hours, at Country Lane (26 Hansen Road, Frankton), and there will be between 15 and 20 food trucks with varied offerings representing different cultures. “We want to give the opportunity to all the food trucks that are starting up and deliver a variety of food.”

The invitation is open so that the community can join this great and entertaining multicultural gastronomic fiesta. Entry is free.
