Amamos a Queenstown.

Transforming Lives Through Street Art

From dark alleys to illuminated avenues, street art emerged as a bold cry for political demand and social criticism. Although time has made this expression evolve, in its beating heart its objective remains intact: to transmit a powerful message and weave an immediate link between the city and its citizens.

The use of public spaces allows what we can call a democratization of art. It creates a direct dynamic between artists, art followers and also with those who have never had such close contact with this current, and allows everyone to get involved, generating a unique identity in the place and increasing popular culture and belonging.

Sound and visual artistic expressions, dance, music, murals, graffiti, everything is part of this street movement.

Creating impact, participation, identity, belonging, provoking and being provoked is what the artistic group Tart seeks, originated by the Uruguayan Lucca Rodríguez and made up of artists and professionals from the Queenstown community, which will present the urban intervention this coming September 9 “Transforming Lives Through Street Art”, a completely free activity in which everyone who wishes to use art as a means of expression is invited to participate.

The main theme of the exhibition is focused on the loneliness of immigrants, an experience that all of us who decide to separate from our countries of origin go through, looking for a new life. Emotional challenges and isolation are part of the challenges we can face, and in the effort to combat them, art emerges as a bridge to channel our emotions and feelings, no matter who we are, what language we speak or where we come from.

The Chilean writer and poet Santiago Bonhomme, who is part of this artistic collective, expresses it well in this text:

“In the anonymity of a strange city, the loneliness of the immigrant is an echoless cry in search of belonging.

Between unknown streets and other people's gazes, the longing for home becomes a constant companion.

The roots we leave behind cling to our hearts, as we search busily for a place to put down new roots.

In the melting pot of cultures, our identities merge, but fragments of who we were are also lost.

The language of the soul transcends language barriers, but we long to hear our stories in the language of our grandparents.

All the faces of Queenstown are a reflection of diversity.

Could we understand each other without words?

We love Queenstown. “How much does Queenstown love us?”

In this street intervention, Tart invites all citizens, locals and tourists, children and adults, to be part and collaborate to put together a single piece of artistic expression that will be captured in the memory of Queenstown.
