Nik Kiddle urges bold action for QLDC’s future

If you’ve ever heard someone tell you “it can’t be done  you’re dreaming”, you know you have found a stick-in-the-mud. Without dreams, ambitions or a willingness to set the bar as high as possible, we risk getting stuck in a quagmire – a status quo that we are told is inevitable.  Well, it’s not.

I am urging the district to rally behind a new vision, raise the bar and go all out for things that matter. Unless we move the dial to focus on our wildest objectives, we risk never getting anywhere past the present. Imagine if someone had told the first aviators that aeroplanes would never fly – we would be stuck in ships and trains. Imagine if someone told Sir Peter Beck that he was “dreaming” as he built a NZ space industry from scratch, or Ernest Rutherford that splitting the atom was impossible, or Sir Edmund Hillary…the list goes on.

The  point is:  we need a mayor capable of standing tall to lead a team that embraces resounding visions of what could be possible; someone to fight for ambitious high level outcomes. That candidate is me. And if I fail, it’s on me – not the voters who put their faith in seeking well-crafted ambitious outcomes.

Out on the campaign trail I have emphasised that we need to recruit the right person for the job of mayor.  And the job entails deep serious negotiation in Wellington on funding, healthcare and transport. It also entails clearing the decks at the top to achieve genuine root and branch reform of the council. Successful restructuring of an organisation takes fresh vision and fresh energy to move away from the status quo.

Please vote.  And please support candidates with outstanding visions - improvements that go well beyond what some consider possible. If you are on board with an ambitious programme, Tick Nik for mayor 2025 and support others seeking to pull in the same direction. Together we can raise the bar and achieve our dreams.
