Queenstown's Gorge Road is set to close again from next Monday, 8 October, until 22 December for work on the town centre arterial stage one.

The road will close between Stanley Street and Weaver Street so contractors can rebuild the road, kerb and channel, and landscape in the area.

It will then reopen for Christmas before some short periods of closure in the New Year. It will also be open for the Queenstown Marathon weekend, from 17-19 November.

During the closure, a two-way detour will be in place along Robins Road.

"Throughout the closure, resident, emergency services and business access will be maintained via Ballarat Street and Henry Street, with vehicles able to leave using the Gorge Road intersection with Stanley Street," Layla Kashanian, stakeholder manager forKā Huanui a Tāhuna (Whakatipu Transport Programme Alliance), says.

"Resident access to Turner Street will remain via Gorge Road from the Arthurs Point end of the road."

Signage onsite will provide clear directions on how to move safely through the area.

The New Year closures will be notified well in advance, she says.
