A person has died after their vehicle rolled on Bannockburn Road, Nevis, Central Otago.

Emergency services rushed to the scene, near the junction with Cairnmuir Road in the Bannockburn winery region, after the one-vehicle crash was reported by a member of the public at 9.45am.

"One person was located in a critical condition and emergency services commenced CPR, however the person was unable to be revived and died at the scene," a police spokesperson says.

The Serious Crash Unit attended and a scene examination was conducted. The road was blocked, but has since reopened.

"Enquiries into the crash are ongoing."
