Police have issued this CCTV image of a man they'd like to talk to about the alleged assault

Police are on the hunt for a young man wearing black jeans, a black jacket and white shoes after a security guard was allegedly viciously assaulted outside 1876 Bar.

Sergeant Tracy Haggart says the man, who’d been removed from the Ballarat Street bar after smashing two glasses on a table, bit the bouncer on the arm causing a broken skin graze and grabbing him around the neck where he also suffered scratches. The assault happened at 9.45pm on Monday, 30 September.

The man, who’d left the scene by the time Police arrived was unable to be located. Haggart says they’d like information from anyone who witnessed the assault and may be able to identify the person, seen in the above photo, who attacked the bouncer. (Call 105.)

Bar anger

A 19-year-old Hamilton male was also arrested and released with a formal warning for disorderly behaviour after arguing with door staff outside bars in Searle Lane at 12.40am on Sunday (29 September). The man had been moved on and started arguing outside another bar.

Drink driving at a car wash

A very intoxicated 38-year-old Australian man was seen trying to drive a vehicle through a car wash in Frankton Road around 6.15pm on Monday (30 September). The man, who was still in the car wash by the time Police arrived, blew a breath alcohol level of 1219mcgs and will appear in the Queenstown District Court on 4 October.

Swimmer found safe

A 53-year-old swimmer was found safe and well by a local paddler after he decided to swim on alone and the group he was swimming with became concerned, alerting Police and Search and Rescue at 9.50am on Saturday.

Haggart says the group had gone swimming off Sugar Lane at the Frankton Marina, heading towards Queenstown and turning back at different times. “When the group got back, they realised one of the swimmers was missing,” Haggart says. SAR was alerted. The man, who’d decided to swim on a bit further, was located by a paddler and all was well. “Good on them for ringing. They did the right thing.”

You go. No, you go

A 70-year-old female cyclist suffered from a minor ankle fracture after she was knocked off her bike by a backing car just before midday on Monday in Hawthorne Drive, near Ramada Hotel. Haggart says the 40-year-old female driver of the car had stopped at the driveway to pull out on to the road. The cyclist had stopped for the car, however, both women moved forward at the same time.

Vehicle accident

Meanwhile, St John Ambulance transported one person to Lakes District Hospital in a moderate condition just before 3pm on Saturday (28 September) after a vehicle accident on Speargrass Flat and Hunter Roads. Two ambulances responded. The Otago Southland Rescue Helicopter also flew a patient to Southland Hospital from Remarkables Ski Area on Monday, but no further details were available.
