Boozed boomerang partygoer

A very intoxicated 21-year-old Dunedin boomerang partygoer refused to be removed from Saturday’s Mardi Gras event for over-indulging just before 5pm.

Constable Amanda Shute says after being removed from the event due to the state he was in security staff then located him back inside again, removing him once more. Shortly after he was caught by security trying to gain entry for a third time attempting to climb a fence, she says. He was arrested and released with a formal warning for trespass.

Drink driver, bong and cannabis grinder down trousers

A minor Robins Road driveway accident netted Police an alleged drink driver, a bong and a cannabis grinder hidden down a trouser leg just before 7pm at a Robins Road backpacker hostel on Saturday.

Shute says the vehicle had ‘bottomed out’ leaving the front right wheel hanging off the driveway. A 19-year-old Christchurch man admitted to being the driver and allegedly blew 790mcgs. His licence was suspended for 28 days. While Police were attending this accident they noticed another 19-year-old Canterbury man with a bong in his hand, carrying out a search for cannabis, instead allegedly finding a cannabis grinder inside the leg of the man’s pants. Police took the grinder and bong from the man, who was issued with a formal warning for possession of utensils for cannabis.

Man punched in late night assault

Police have been dealing with more late-night aggression downtown; this time called to the Mall just before 1am on Sunday after a man had been punched in the face. Constable Amanda Shute says the man sustained injuries to his face and his teeth were damaged, requiring him to be taken to Lakes District Hospital for treatment. No descriptions were available, and Police have no further details as to where in the Mall the assault occurred or the circumstances surrounding it. Their enquiries are continuing to try and identify the offender.

Drink driving

A 23-year-old overseas driver, who’d been spotted doing a U-Turn on Shotover Street with no headlights on, was then stopped in Man Street, allegedly blowing 573mcg at 11.15pm on Friday. The driver was charged and will appear in the Queenstown District Court on 18 July.

And a local man, 53, blew 576mcg, at an Arrowtown checkpoint just before 5.15pm on 19 June. He appears in court 18 July.

Cardrona rescue

The Otago Southland Rescue Helicopter and St John Ambulance paramedics attended an accident at Cardrona just after 10.30am on Saturday, airlifting one person to Dunedin Hospital in a moderate condition.
