Assault - man allegedly kicked in the head
A 31-year-old Canterbury man will face two charges of assault with intent to injure after a person was allegedly punched, knocked to the ground then kicked in the head twice in Rees Street at 1am on Sunday, 1 November, Police say.

Constable Amanda Shute says they were called after the victim allegedly received two punches to the face, the second knocking them to the ground. While on the ground the offender allegedly kicked the victim in the head twice then ran away before Police. He was then tracked to a bar where he was located and arrested. The man appeared in the Queenstown District Court on Monday, 2 November, and was remanded on bail to reappear on 11 November.

Givealittle launched after fatal Kawarau Gorge crash
Police are making enquiries on behalf of the Coroner into the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash in the Kawarau Gorge on Friday, 30 October, just after 3pm.

One person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene of the two-vehicle crash, which occurred close to the Cromwell side of the Roaring Meg Power Station, a Police spokesperson says. The crash blocked State Highway 6 with traffic diverted to alternative routes and motorists asked to delay travel. The Serious Crash Unit was notified, and the road remained closed while emergency services worked at the scene.

Two rescue helicopters and an ambulance responded, and a St John Ambulance spokesperson says one other person involved was treated and taken to Lakes District Hospital by road ambulance in a minor condition.

A Givealittle page set up by a Cromwell friend to help the partner and two-year-old daughter of the young woman who died had raised more than $21,000 in three days by last evening (Wednesday, 4 November).
