Police have released the name of the woman who died in a crash near Kingston last month.

She was 34-year-old Hayley Shannon Purcell from Queenstown Lakes District.

A member of the public alerted emergency services at about 4.30am on 22 August, after coming across a single vehicle that has crashed on the Kingston Garston Highway, State Highway 6, at the southern end of Lake Wakatipu.

Ms Purcell was the sole occupant and died at the scene.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

"Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time", a police spokesperson says.

A memorial service was held at Lake Hayes Pavilion in late August. A live stream of the service is available online at www.southernfuneralhome.co.nz.
