Cardrona Alpine Resort

Cardrona Alpine Resort plans to expand the Pines Carpark, adding to the suite of upgrades it is undertaking.

The ski area has submitted a resource consent application to significantly expand the carpark - located approximately one kilometre up the Cardrona access road - and replace the temporary buildings on-site with a permanent building.

The new building, Cardrona said, would have “improved weather protections and toiletry facilities”, and the expanded carpark would be able to accommodate 420 vehicles.

Cardrona said this would “improve visitor experience and transportation options”.

It “…will allow more people to utilise shared modes of transport [and] the proposal is effectively increasing the existing park ‘ride services”.

Cardrona’s base complex is also getting an upgrade.

Plans were approved in October for a 619m2 building with retail services on the ground floor and food and beverage facilities upstairs.

The existing retail and administration building will be demolished to make way for the new one.

There are also changes to the ski field itself in the works.

The ski area is developing a new chairlift and ski runs in the Soho Basin which, together with the Willows Basin, make up the Soho Ski Area.

Earmarked to open for winter 2025, the new six-seater chairlift will service around 150ha of terrain.
