Queenstown will sparkle brighter than ever on Friday, 11 October 2025, as the Bhartiya Samaj Queenstown Charitable Trust hosts the 10th annual Diwali – Festival of Lights.

For a decade, this free community celebration has united locals and visitors in the universal themes of Diwali: the triumph of light over darkness and the power of connection. What began as a small gathering of Indian families has grown into one of Queenstown’s most anticipated multicultural events.

Sustainability at the Heart

Over the past three years, organisers have worked hard to make the festival as gentle on the environment as it is joyful for the spirit. Initiatives such as reusable serving ware, comprehensive recycling stations, and careful vendor guidelines have significantly reduced waste. “It’s taken dedication and constant refinement,” says Mangal Behal, President of Bhartiya Samaj Queenstown. “But protecting the beauty of our surroundings is just as important as celebrating our culture.

Celebrating Community and Culture
The Trust remains committed to bringing joy, colour, and a sense of belonging to Queenstown’s Indian community while inviting the wider region to share in the experience. Visitors can expect breathtaking classical and contemporary Indian performances from Auckland, Christchurch and all the way to Melbourne as well, vibrant rangoli art, and an array of aromatic vegetarian dishes. Children’s activities and storytelling add to the family-friendly atmosphere.
