RE: Industrial Place Parking

August 7 2017

In response to this whinge a couple of weeks ago, I just wanted to extend my thanks to this concerned citizen.

As they so sharply observed a lot of cars were not parked in designated spaces, and many exceeded the 60 minute limit by quite a margin. The problem is this my eagle eyed helper, the vast majority of those cars belong to the workers of Industrial Place and Repco Blvd, and as you so kindly drew this to the council’s attention, the already limited parking in this area is now even more limited and being checked on.

Now there is a large carpark on Gorge Road, unfortunately not only does this fill up in a matter of minutes in a morning but it is a known target for thieves, even with the new cameras.

So may I suggest I park on your driveway in the mornings and you can run me into work as you have single-handedly taken away 50 or so parking spaces for employees in this area.

Again, huge thanks.

Do you think you and your workmates are exempt from parking rules? I work in town and can't park outside my shop for more than 30 minutes before I would get a ticket. How is Industrial Place any different? Parking limits are there for a reason so the public can come and visit and have somewhere to park. Don't feel picked on, once the $2 bus starts in November no-one will be able to park ANYWHERE near town for free all day.

Sticks and Stones and witty asides does not hide the fact that in many instances the parking problems presit because businesses simply to not take into account employee and or customer parking requirments when they lease or in case of developers with a new build allow for them. That in many instances people simply not prepared to walk a few minuites or pay for parking.

NAS - That may be true but "Industrial Place Employee" is stating that because some tattletale went crying to the council now everybody is receiving tickets left right and center.

I re-read the original whinge about Industrial Place parking and the main focus of the that whinge was about parking on the grass and footpaths which had just been banned at the airport so why was it allowed elsewhere in Queenstown.
I also agree with others that if you want parking at your work it's up to employers to provide it onsite otherwise catch a bus to work or do what CBD workers do - park in the nearest legal place and walk 5-10 minutes.

I am as surprised as no doubt you are the QLDC actualy did something about it. Now that they are on a roll perhaps they could spread their wings and address the awfull illegal parking problem in the Fernhill ,Sunshine Bay Streets. Or does their parking manadate only cover the CBD?

NAS - I love how we've gone from a community of looking out for each other and not caring if someone parks on a bit of a grass to bunch of "grasses" running to QLDC as soon as someone does something sometime.

The only winners despite your 30 sec warm feeling of social justice is QLDC who take that lovely pile of parking ticket money and uses it to remove even more parking in Queenstown leading to more of the same.
