Parks 4 the fur baby

October 29 2019

I am a proud Dog owner. I love my pooch and at this present point in time wish to choose dogs over children. My problem... where the bloody hell is the dog park!! My dog has been attending day care for 3 years and unfortunately the day care is having to close its doors, so now where do we take our dogs to meet up? I would love to take our pooch to meet and socialise with other dogs. There are so many dogs in Queenstown but absolutely no where to take them to meet other dogs where dogs can just be dogs. Run free, smell butts and take a big poop (Picked up by the owner with environmentally friendly dog bags of course!). Not all people are dog people. I understand that and completely respect that. My dog is a large breed and a lot of people are intimated by us when we walk along the lake or around the Gardens. It would be nice where us dog owners can meet, gather and gush about their fur babies. Big or small. There is very little dog activities or dog day care facilities now in Queenstown, and the ones that are still open are fully booked. We are a growing town and yes i understand land is expensive. If Cromwell are looking at even looking into making a dog park, why the bloody hell can’t Queenstown?

I mean Cromwell - Come ON!

I agree with Come on comments. An interesting interesting observation is that Dog owners generally pay rates ,taxes and also licence fees for their pets, yet receive less services and are more tightly controlled than the Feral Freedom campers who are forever being showered with local and Central government largeness and forgiveness for their ongoing breaches of New Zealand laws and Hospitality including defecating were ever it best suits them.

May I ask the writer what steps he/she has taken prior to this winge post on LWB ? Have you made inquiries to the council, a submission on the QLDC website regarding plan changes and/or any stage of the Proposed District Plan? Are you lobbying the Council in any form, is there a petition to be shared and signed? Is anyone, other than the readers of this weeks LWB, aware of your angst and in the absence of yourself is anyone doing anything? Where do you propose this dog park to be, who will pay initially for the land and ongoing costs such as facilities and maintenance ( dog poop clean up because not everyone does that, Alwaste contract expense and water supplies) . Bearing in mind the impracticality and unavailability of the CBD, elsewhere parking will be an issue as too will be those who drive to said dog park contributing to both pollution and traffic congestion . There's a lot to consider and I can only believe all of the above and more have been consider and action taken prior to your winge.
I wait your reply comments in anticipation of moving forward, joining forces and seeing results.
