Notta lotta Ramada parking.

September 9 2019

I live in Frankton, behind the Ramada Hotel, and have noticed there is not much free parking available there. On the apartment complex I’m based we have one carpark spot available per apartment. In some cases this is not enough - i.e- Rental . There are few parking spots around the area but with a 90 minute allowance, meaning you could get a fine if you leave your car there for the entire day – not ideal at all. The other option is the paid carpark just next to the complex. Of course paying for an extra parking spot is alright, but not when the cost would be over $200 per month, specially on top of the quite pricey rent. So I would like to understand what other options we have, or if there is a better plan for the residents of this area?

Getting fined for living.

Response: In this district, where cars have become part of a wider traffic problem, providing more resident carparks is not a good environmental solution. While the apartment building referred to was not built by Remarkables Park Ltd (RPL), it is less than 70 metres from a bus stop serviced by the $2 bus and has easy connections to the trails network, so other good transport options are available. RPL is continuing to work on more and better public transport services, including ferry and gondola connections.
As more apartments, offices and other work and education places are built at Remarkables Park we envisage more residents being able to manage their lives with fewer private vehicle trips.
If the writer wants to park an extra car, RPL offers discounted rates for long-term parking (6 & 12 months) at our Hawthorne Drive carpark.

I know of a place in Fernhill which has 8 residents renting it, and they have 1 carpark....WTF...how can this be allowed to happen?

At least you have some carparks out at Frankton. Just wait until the new hotel on the corner of Man and Brecon St gets built with not a single car park - that will add 40-50 cars per night trying to find a park in the CBD streets. How the council approves such complexes is ridiculous. Our central government is encouraging tourists to use rental cars over buses with multi-million dollar advertising campaigns but our council doesn't insist any car parks are built with large hotels. Now they finally seem to realise the CBD is becoming impossible to access and want another 1100 car parks. They should have listened to the public for the last 10 years rather than remove car parks in the CBD and think everyone will catch the $2 bus.

Somewhat of a hypocritical response from Remarkable Park as rather than only offer bus Parks their Shopping areas offers hundreds of car parks.
