The Queenstown Writers Festival

2020 is the second year of the Writers Festival. It all started in May 2018 when a group of friends decided that Queenstown needed its own Writers and Readers Festival. Like all good festivals a committee was formed and after many months of planning the Queenstown Writers Festival was held over two days in November 2019. In 2020 the festival has grown to involve 14 writers over four days. The festival also held a short story writing competition that drew entries from across the Otago and Southland region.

The Writers Festival aims to present a range of events and speakers to appeal to a wide range of audiences.  Novelists, poets, children’s writers and non-fiction writers will all share their stories with a local audience and lead writing workshops.

This year the festival celebrates four major New Zealand authors to headline the festival: Tom Scott, Witi Ihimaera, Dame Fiona Kidman and Becky Manawatu and conclude with the launch of Emma Timmis new book.

The festival will take place across three venues - Sherwood, Queenstown Contemporary at Five Mile and Yonder between Thursday 5th and Sunday 8th November.
