Welcome to winter!

June 20 2022 by Laura Hedley

Welcome to winter!

We’re excited to be getting back into it after last weeks “Snowmageddon”, which has set us up for a great start to the season.

The team has worked hard over the summer months to make key upgrades for both mountains, and those upgrades have focused on snow reliability and technology. At Cardrona, we added a new snowmaking dam, to increase our snowmaking water capacity and give Mother Nature a hand in those early weeks of the season. Over at Treble Cone, more guns were put in place on Triple Treat, and the snowmaking pump shed was upgraded. In the digital space, we have a new point of sale system and online e-commerce platform. Combined, these systems are ultimately going to make it easier for you to buy online and pick up your lift passes.

Cardrona and Treble Cone are also making a commitment to equitable gender representation in all our marketing media, and we’re starting with our women. If you haven’t seen All In yet, it’s a documentary celebrating Kiwi women in snow sports, and includes candid conversation around their experience. You can watch it and find out more about our team’s journey at cardrona.com/all-in – we’d love you to check it out.

On the mountain this winter we’ve got a tonne of fun events for you all. We’re kicking things off with Mountain Bikes on Snow, we’re holding Ngā Wāhine ō te Maunga (Women of the Mountain) again, TC has epic new events like the TC Gnarlom, the Jossi Wells Invitational is back, and the team at Winter Games NZ are running some top-level competitions. There’s so much going on, and you can check it all out on our website or our Facebook pages.

This winter is going to look and feel a little different to previous seasons, especially in the hospitality space. Like everyone in New Zealand, we don’t have as many back-of-house staff as we normally would, and with Covid-19 in the community we’re expecting to have many of our whānau isolating at some point in the season. So this is a winter to expect the unexpected – your favourite café on the mountain might not be running the same as last year, but you might spot a fun on-mountain collaboration with our Wānaka restaurant community, or meet a couple of staff members who are learning new skills in new departments this year.

We have an amazing team at both mountains who can’t wait to welcome you to Cardrona and Treble Cone this winter. So come on up – we’ll be right here with a big grin, a bunch of high fives and a few “kia oras”… this is Winter 2022, bring it on!
